Celebrating Our Journey

A Decade of Preserving Moroccan Craftsmanship

Since 2011, the Jabal Al Habib Women's Craft Cooperative has grown from a small group of 7 dedicated women to a recognized leader in traditional Moroccan crafts. Our mission is to empower women artisans while ensuring our rich cultural heritage is passed on to future generations.

Our Journey: Threads of Heritage, Hands of Strength

A Spark Born in Jbel Lahbib

Long before the foundation of our cooperative, the story began with a young girl watching local artisans weave magic from thread and clay. For Najat Afilal Al-Saghir, traditional Moroccan craftsmanship was never just a skill—it was a lived passion. Growing up surrounded by the rich heritage of northern Morocco, she learned the rhythmic, delicate art of handcrafting at an early age.

As time passed, Najat watched a heartbreaking trend unfold: centuries-old artisanal techniques were slowly fading away, buried under the rush of modern industrial production. She knew that to save these crafts, she had to build a sanctuary for them. In 2011, that dream took shape in the heart of the Jbel Lahbib region, uniting local women under a shared vision.

Gathering the Loom: From 7 to 25+

What started as a modest collective of 7 determined women quickly transformed into a powerful movement. Together, they set out with a clear, unwavering mission:

  • Revive disappearing traditional techniques passed down through generations.
  • Elevate local, artisanal products made with authentic northern Moroccan materials.
  • Empower women by offering them economic independence, pride, and a platform for their artistry.

Word spread through the rolling hills of Jbel Lahbib. The cooperative blossomed, growing to a vibrant peak of more than 25 craftswomen and collaborators. The workshop echoed with laughter, story-sharing, and the timeless hum of women creating together.

Extending the Hand: A Northern Alliance

As the cooperative evolved, so did its purpose. Today, our core family is maintained by 7 dedicated master craftswomen who safeguard our foundational techniques. But our mission has grown beyond our workshop walls.

Recognizing the economic hurdles faced by independent makers, we opened our doors to talent across northern Morocco. We now actively mentor and collaborate with external artisans, helping them refine their crafts, gain visibility, and access new markets.

A proud testament to this vision is our partnership with master craftsmen outside the Jbel Lahbib region—uniting unique northern traditions into a single, celebrated collective. By bridging communities, we ensure that the legendary artistry of the North doesn't just survive, but thrives in the modern world.

Why We Create

Every piece created through our cooperative carries a soul. It tells the story of Najat’s childhood passion, the resilience of Jbel Lahbib’s women, and the rich cultural tapestry of northern Morocco. When you hold our crafts, you don't just hold a product—you hold a piece of preserved heritage.
